As we turn the page into August, we find ourselves in a month rich with opportunities for prayer, devotion, and growth in our relationship with God. In the warmth of summer, the Church invites us to pause, reflect, and embrace the rhythm of the liturgical calendar.
August 6 – The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
On August 6, we celebrate the glorious Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor, when He revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John. This moment foreshadowed His Resurrection and reminded the disciples—and us—of the promise of eternal life. The Transfiguration calls us to listen to the voice of the Father and to be transformed by Christ’s light in our daily lives.
August 15 – The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Midway through the month, on August 15, we celebrate one of the most beautiful Marian feasts—the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. This solemnity honors Mary’s special place in God’s plan of salvation and her being taken body and soul into heavenly glory. As our spiritual mother, she intercedes for us and points us toward her Son. Let us take this day to renew our trust in Mary’s care and to seek her help in drawing closer to Christ.
August 22 – The Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
One week after the Assumption, the Church honors Mary again on August 22 as Queen of Heaven and Earth. This feast reminds us that Mary’s queenship flows from her perfect obedience to God and her closeness to Christ, the King of Kings. It is an invitation to imitate her humility, faith, and unwavering trust in God’s will.
A Time to Prepare for a New Season
August often feels like a turning point—summer’s fullness begins to give way to the coming autumn. In parish life, this can be a time to prepare for upcoming ministries, faith formation programs, and community events. Let us use this month to ready our hearts for the work ahead, asking God to bless our efforts and inspire us with fresh enthusiasm for serving Him.
Walking in Faith Together
Whether we are celebrating the great feasts of August, enjoying the beauty of creation, or preparing for the months ahead, let us remain rooted in prayer and committed to growing together as a parish family. May this month be a time of renewal for our hearts, our homes, and our Church community.
